Laurel Grove Cemetery

Updated: Dec 5

Laurel Grove Cemetery is hidden gem in Savannah! One of the most prominent Victorian cemeteries that is the home to most of Savannah's patrons from the past. As the City grew, new roads were set in place for progress, so, 37th Street split Laurel Grove in half. This makes this the only cemetery in Savannah that is divided into two parts, the north for whites and wayward souls and the south, for slaves and people of color. This cemetery houses many mayors, lawyers, prominent Savannah locals and war heroes.

A very beautiful cemetery, although not well kept by the city. The statuary and funerary art are gorgeous and typical of a Victorian cemetery. The stories this cemetery tells are vast and full of Savannah History.
